According to DC Comics, Wonder Woman is now bisexual. Bisexual woman do not disgust me, in fact I’m perfectly fine with it. The reason this seems a bit off to me is that comics are now changing the characters we know and love at a rapid pace. Oftentimes, the changes involve new races or sexual identities. We’ve seen this sort of thing too many times to count at this point. If it felt unforced, that would be one thing. But it doesn’t. It feels like Marvel and DC are on a mission to shove an agenda down our throats, reader be damned. I read people on my Twitter timeline everyday who are fed up with their antics and I cant say I blame them.

From BuzzFeed, one of the few outlets I still use archive.is on…

In an interview with Comicosity on Thursday, Greg Rucka, the current writer of DC Comics’ Wonder Woman, confirmed that the Amazon princess plays for both teams.

“Now, are we saying Diana has been in love and had relationships with other women?” replied Rucka when asked directly if the Wonder Woman he and artist Nicola Scott have introduced in their latest work is queer. “As Nicola and I approach it, the answer is obviously yes.”

I mean, in a way it makes sense given the character’s background, but if her bisexuality was so obvious why are sites like the one above trumpeting it as some revelation? It’s not like this has been a taboo subject anytime in the last 10 years or so. It seems more like yet another stunt by DC Comics to drum up attention in the media. Obviously, it worked because CrudFeed is writing about it and I’m writing about it (plus tons of other outlets). But these sort of cheap plays have started to wear very thin simply because they’re done so fucking often, usually with even less logic than you see here with the Wonder Woman switch.

Wonder Woman’s “newfound” bisexuality is just the latest example of why so many people I talk to are sick of the comic book industry altogether.
