I’m about to run to DC to meet up with Feminist Flow, but I had to come her and say something about Colin Kaepernick real quick. In case you don’t know who he is, the guy plays quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. The reason he’s in the news as of late has nothing to do with his play, since it’s mostly sucked recently. Rahter, it’s because he refused to stand during the national anthem at least twice this preseason.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has willingly immersed himself into controversy by refusing to stand for the playing of the national anthem in protest of what he deems are wrongdoings against African Americans and minorities in the United States.

His latest refusal to stand for the anthem — he has done this in at least one other preseason game — came before the 49ers‘ preseason loss to Green Bay at Levi’s Stadium on Friday night.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”…

“This is not something that I am going to run by anybody,” he said. “I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. … If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right.”

Kaepernick said that he has thought about going public with his feelings for a while but that “I felt that I needed to understand the situation better.”

As many of you may know due to my writing here on the site, I do think we need some sort of police reform here in the United States. We also need to work on our communities and end the War on Drugs. Blacks have to get real about black on black crime as well. Basically, we need to have a holistic solution, not a cheap and easy fix. And it’s not fair to blame all this on the police. They’ve been put in an almost impossible situation here in this country. I’m not saying I don’t think they can do better in some cases, because I do believe that. But to put all the hate and blame with them is wrong.

You know what else is wrong? A millionaire quarterback shitting all over the country that made the motherfucker rich. No pride in America? You know what, people like Kaepernick are part of the problem. I don’t care what happens, I have pride in my country ALWAYS. A rich, pompous punk like him shitting on the country is insane. I love my country and I’m just getting by. How out of touch do you have to be to come out and say some shit like this? This is worse than supporting a group like BLM to me. This is insulting the people who have laid down their lives so you could make millions playing a child’s game.

In short, get fucked, Kaepernick. You’re probably just angling for a future career in activism, since your NFL one has taken a turn for the worse. Whatever the case may be, you’re a disgrace to the 49ers, to the NFL, and to this great nation.
