If you’ve been following the news this week, then you know that the Honey Badgers Brigade (HBB) was thrown out of the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo (CalEx) last week on some trumped up charges, simply to silence debate. It was a political crime and a blatant slap in the face to everyone who loves and cherishes freedom of expression. The reaction it caused is heartening, though. A couple days ago, the HBB announced that they were going to be taking legal action against the convention. Well, they setup the legal fund yesterday, and the results so far have been nothing short of amazing. In just one day, more than $9,000 has been raised towards the effort. I can only imagine that the number will soar higher as the week progresses.

We’ve seen this type of reaction before, and we know our community is strong. We’ve always been willing to put our money on the line to back important causes. This is no different. Also, I think the Honey Badger Brigade has a pretty damn good case here on the face of it. The only question is the Canadian legal system. I don’t know the intricacies there as well as I do here in the USA. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but either way, GamerGate and our various allies always step up to the plate when needed. EbVU8NL

Whether it’s pulling together to cheer someone up who’s having a bad time, raising money for suicide prevention, funding indy game development, or raising money for the HBB so they can sue the shit out of the crooked bastards that run CalEx, GamerGate always rises to the challenge. I’ll keep following this case, you can be rest assured of that.
