Palmer Luckey

I didn’t get the chance to talk about this story yesterday, but now I have to weigh in. Maybe you missed it? If you did, here’s a quick rundown: The near-billionaire behind the Oculus Rift, Palmer Luckey, had his support of Donald Trump outed by the Daily Beast. Then, he had his GamerGate girlfriend outed by Gizmodo. Before I get into the weak-ass apology he put out later, let me talk about these two reports.

First off, The Daily Beast had every right to out his support of Trump. Now, they definitely did it to hurt him, there’s no question about that. But when a rich dude who’s pushing one of the hottest tech fads around is found out to be the secret money-man behind a political organization supporting a major presidential candidate, there’s no question that’s big news. Was this some dispassionate report aimed at merely informing? No. They wanted to tear Mr. Luckey down. Still, that’s their right. He’s a public figure and therefore he’s fair game. We talk about the big name donors behind Hillary Clinton’s evil machine all the time.

The Gizmodo report is slightly trickier, since throwing in his girlfriend is taking it another step further. However, the woman in question, Nikki Moxxi (Nicole Edelmann), was also a public figure with a decent-sized Twitter account and 4,000 likes on her Facebook page. She’s also made public appearances dressed up as GamerGate’s mascot, Vivian James. To say this person is off-limits in terms of reporting is kinda stupid. Now, did Gizmodo name her in order to make her and Palmer’s life more difficult? Probably. They also probably just wanted to give this story more juice in whatever way they could. The girlfriend angle was the only thing that made their reporting unique. Without it, they were simply reblogging the Daily Beast post.

Gizmodo is shit, OK? That’s not the point. My problem is with ridiculous headlines (and other similar reactions) like this one:

GIZMODO INCITES HARASSMENT ON FEMALE #GAMERGATE SUPPORTER, FORCES HER OFF TWITTER

No one forced this woman off Twitter. She left of her own free will, possibly at the behest of her rich ass boyfriend. I’ve been at the center of storms similar to this. I’ve literally had thousands of people fuck with me over recent reports about my arrest. Did I leave Twitter? Fuck no. Did I cry about muh harassment? Hell no. To do so makes you sound SJW-ish, in my opinion. You can disagree over the ethics of Gizmodo naming her in their report, but acting like it’s harassment is not the way to play this. She didn’t have to leave, in fact she should have stayed and fought these SJW scumbags.

Here’s how people should react:

Then again, she seems to be taking cues from Palmer Luckey. That makes her retreat easier to understand, because hours later, he made a massive retreat himself

I am deeply sorry that my actions are negatively impacting the perception of Oculus and its partners. The recent news stories about me do not accurately represent my views.

Here’s more background: I contributed $10,000 to Nimble America because I thought the organization had fresh ideas on how to communicate with young voters through the use of several billboards. I am a libertarian who has publicly supported Ron Paul and Gary Johnson in the past, and I plan on voting for Gary in this election as well.

I am committed to the principles of fair play and equal treatment. I did not write the “NimbleRichMan” posts, nor did I delete the account. Reports that I am a founder or employee of Nimble America are false. I don’t have any plans to donate beyond what I have already given to Nimble America.

Still, my actions were my own and do not represent Oculus. I’m sorry for the impact my actions are having on the community.

This stands in direct contrast to what he allegedly told The Daily Beast, by the way…

“The American Revolution was funded by wealthy individuals,” NimbleRichMan wrote on Saturday. Luckey confirmed to The Daily Beast he penned the posts under his Reddit pseudonym. “The same has been true of many movements for freedom in history. You can’t fight the American elite without serious firepower. They will outspend you and destroy you by any and all means.”

Now, maybe they’re lying…and if they are, he needs to sue them for libel. I don’t think they’re making this up, though (and they probably have a recording to prove it, if I had to guess). The more likely scenario is he’s doing everything he can to save his own ass. I imagine his business partners were livid when they heard about this report and I bet they demanded he back down. He had one of two options when this occurred:

1. Back down and get dragged by both sides. One sees you as a pussy who refuses to stand-up for what he believes in, while the other is never going to believe this lame apology (and rightfully so, because it seems highly bogus).

or…

2. Tell the media to go fuck themselves and be hailed as a hero among the anti-PC crowd.

He obviously made the first choice and it’s going to come back to bite him in the ass. Forever. Because like I said, he now has the worst of both worlds. The media will never, ever, ever, ever let this shit go. The people he turned his back on will not soon forget it, either. This is why you should not apologize to these media scumbags. There’s zero logic in it. The people asking you for an apology are never going to truly forgive you. It will just be used to bludgeon you for eternity. Vox Day has written about this  at length.

Mike Cernovich also knows the deal…

It’s probably too late for Mr. Luckey, although maybe he will come to his senses someday and tell the media to eat shit and die. By then, it may be too late to regain any of his credibility. But this can be a good lesson for anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation. Never surrender any points to these SJW shitbirds. Don’t apologize for exercising your constitutional right to free speech. There’s zero shame in getting involved with the political process. Why should someone apologize for it? The answer is, they shouldn’t. Stand up and make these fuckers back down. It can be done. I just hope others are drawing the right lessons from this instead of the wrong ones.
