Good afternoon, everyone. Sorry for the slow start today, but I was up very late going on a fast food run and writing a story about it. Here’s something that’s a little bit more on topic. In case you missed it, Beyoncé is catching criticism from certain feminist corners over making this simple statement…
“Out of everything I’ve accomplished, my proudest moment hands down was when I gave birth to my daughter Blue…”
Apparently, this was an insult to feminists like Jenny Kutner. I guess being more proud of your daughter than your Super Bowl halftime appearances or hit records is some kind of affront to The Cause. Apparently Kutner never thought to examine why most women don’t call themselves feminists. This would be Exhibit A, if she ever does decide to take-up such an examination.
I won’t be holding my breath, though, especially after reading drivel like this…
[T]he fact that Queen Bey lists motherhood as her greatest triumph in spite of all her other successes speaks volumes about the way domestic achievements are supposed to rank in women’s lives — that is to say, above the rest…
Our cultural narratives dictate, however, that regardless of how impressive their resumes might be, women are meant to have babies and spend their time happily devoted to them. We expect that all women become mothers and treat child-rearing as if it should be the most fulfilling vocation in the world, to the point that women who don’t have children are seen as selfish, cold or broken. There’s excessive pressure on women not only to have children, but to claim their roles as parents as their crowning achievement…
Given the hurdles most working moms must overcome, then, wouldn’t it be refreshing for one of the most professionally accomplished women in the world to value her career and family accomplishments equally? To say, “You know what? I really love being a mom, but I’m most proud of the work I’ve done”?
It’s almost like most women just naturally want to be good mothers and instinctively value that more than anything else in their lives. I wonder why that is? It couldn’t be that women are wired that way for the benefit of all mankind, could it? Nah, it must be some cultural conspiracy to keep women down and in the kitchen and nursery, where they belong. The patriarchy strikes again.
To be fair, other feminists have called out this garbage for what it is, but I’m pretty sure they just see this as a public relations disaster and are trying to spin in the opposite direction. If Beyoncé, one of the world’s best known feminists, can get attacked over saying she appreciates her daughter more than her Grammys, then what hope does their movement really have? SJWs always eat each other. This is just another example in a very long line of intraparty attacks. Thankfully for us, it will never stop.
