OK, I think I’ve had just about enough Honey Badgers drama for now…at least until I go on Veeh’s stream with one of them later today. But why don’t we occupy ourselves with combating anti-semitic memes in the meantime? As you all know, Pepe the Frog is a symbol for Nazis everywhere. He’s pretty much the most evil mascot we’ve seen since, well, whatever the last symbol these pearl-clutching pussies told us to be outraged about. This time, Pull the (Gas Chamber) Lever Pepe has darkened the doorstep of the super serious world of competitive gaming, also known as esports.
Personally, I don’t watch much of that stuff. It’s not because I don’t see the appeal. Mainly, it has to do with the fact that I don’t get to play enough video games as it is, so if I do get any gaming time, I would rather be enjoying them myself rather than watching others do so. But, lots of people love watching it, so much so that it’s considered a burgeoning sport. NFL owners and other big shots in the sporting world now own teams in the professional Overwatch league. The NBA and Take Two Interactive are starting their own NBA 2K league this May.
Needless to say, there’s a lot of money riding on esports.
More money means a lot of good things, but it also means more corporate bullshit. In that vein, let me get back to Pepe the Frog. Jay Won (aka Sinatraa), an esports player on the San Francisco Shock, put up a birthday tweet recently featuring the ULTRA RACIST cartoon frog.
I can only bring that picture to you thanks to the magic of internet archives. That’s because Blizzard Entertainment, the developers of Overwatch and the owners of the Overwatch League, decided to call the management of the Shock and ask them to get Mr. Won to delete his clearly bigoted tweet.

Blizzard has recently removed pepe signs in the OWL crowd and has requested other OWL players to remove pepe-related memes and images from their social media accounts. Personally, while I understand Blizzard's concern, I don't think it's a big deal.

Honestly, I can also understand Blizzard’s concern, but I still think it’s weak as hell. Why is Blizzard letting the ADL’s bogus blog dictate what memes esports players can use? It’s pretty pathetic, although I can’t say I’m shocked, given Blizzard’s past behavior.
