Good afternoon, everyone. I’ve been shopping for an internet package for the new house today, which is a pain in the ass. They keep trying to upsell me a bundle package which includes cable television. So far I’ve resisted. I just don’t see the point in paying for cable anymore given that I can download pretty much any program for free with a torrent and/or Usenet. If they didn’t charge monthly for the set-top boxes, I would probably consider it, but that’s not how these companies work. Also, I only watched a handful of channels when I used to pay for television, so à la carte pricing could possibly temp me, but that’s not the world we live in when it comes to Comcast and Verizon.
I do pay for Netflix and Hulu already, so that’s another consideration. PlayStation offers Vue, which isn’t terrible. I would consider it over Sling, however I only have one PS4 and it’s not available on Roku. I do see that they have it on Chromecast and the Fire TV Stick, but I would likely just get a cable bundle instead of doing all that. The benefit to using a service like this is no monthly charges for a box, so I might still explore it in the future. The cable TV cartels are massively annoying and they have all sorts of fees and clauses that usually end up with you paying a higher bill than you expected at the outset. I really don’t feel like getting involved with them again, outside of paying an already exorbitant price for high-speed internet.
How many of you still have cable TV service? Do you use Vue, Sling, or something else? Or are you Piracy+, like I am at the moment? The only downside to my current predicament is the lack of live sporting options. I can almost always find a stream, but there is something to be said for being able to turn your television on and get a crisp HD version of your favorite sport. Then again, I don’t have time to watch as much sports as I used to, so this seems like an overpriced luxury for the time being. This post is just a rant to get the day started and also to receive a feel for where you guys are at personally.
