I wrote a story about the #FreeKesha campaign on Twitter the other day and after laying out the specifics, I summed up the campaign thusly…

There’s some rumors being put out by her team that physical evidence exists. If so, show it to the authorities and let Dr. Luke get charged. That’s about the only way you can save this now, Kesha. Keep in mind, I’m not even saying that she’s lying. How am I to know? I can tell you that she waited 9 years to report the alleged rape and she’s also trying to get out of her contract as a result of the allegations she’s making. She could be telling the truth, but there’s some things that make people think it’s fishy…

As I said, if Kesha was raped then Dr. Luke needs to go to jail. If she has evidence, she needs to turn it over to the police. But the court of public opinion should never be the deciding factor in a courtroom, and it definitely shouldn’t take the place of legal proceedings altogether. Anyone who spews that nonsense is a dangerous nutcase.

As I said, who knows if she’s telling the truth or not? She very well could be, but her contract cannot be voided without hard evidence that these claims are true. Personally, I would probably be looking to cut her loose on my own if I was Dr. Luke, but his lawyers may be telling him that it would look like an admission of guilt if he released her. We also don’t know what Sony’s attorneys are saying. They may be fearful that this will set a precedent for future musicians, giving them a way to get out of contracts they no longer want to honor.

Dr. Luke finally responded to all this on Twitter yesterday…

Twitter being Twitter, the tweets themselves are out of sequence. I could have pasted them all here and avoided that, but it would have taken up a ton of space. His account is linked above if you want to read them in order. It’s important that we hear his side, but that’s not why I posted his responses here. The reason I did, is so you can see the torrent of abuse he received from #FreeKesha campaigners. At a time when Twitter is supposedly cracking down on abusive behavior, this shows you what kinds of double standards exist with their effort…

If Twitter was really serious about cleaning up their service, this type of behavior would not be allowed. In my view, their current campaign is nothing more than an effort to censor conservative voices as well as those opposed to SJWs and political correctness in general. If you have the wrong politics, your account is on the chopping block. But if you’re a progressive and want to call someone a rapist and tell them to die, you’re all good. Hypocrisy, thy name is Jack Dorsey.
