It seems like Hillary Clinton supporters are blaming anyone and everyone for their defeat…except, ya know, their candidate. God forbid they blame that garbage heap of a politician! Even her own staff refuses to blame themselves. Comey, the media, sexism, anyone but themselves and Mrs. Clinton.

Sexism. The media. James Comey.

On a call with surrogates Thursday afternoon, top advisers John Podesta and Jennifer Palmieri pinned blame for Hillary Clinton’s loss on a host of uncontrollable headwinds that ultimately felled a well-run campaign that executed a sensible strategy, and a soldier of a candidate who appealed to the broadest coalition of voters in the country.

They shot down questions about whether they should have run a more populist campaign with a greater appeal to angry white voters, pointing to exit polls that showed Clinton beat Trump on the issue of the economy. They explained that internal polling from May showed that attacking Trump on the issue of temperament was a more effective message.

They offered no apology for the unexpected loss.

On the call, Clinton surrogates who have supported the campaign from the outside for the past 18 months offered their thanks to the Brooklyn-based operatives. The mood was light and supportive, with Podesta and Palmieri expressing gratitude for everyone’s hard work.

But some people on the call were seething.

“They are saying they did nothing wrong, which is ridiculous,” said one Clinton surrogate. “She was the wrong messenger and everyone misjudged how pissed working class people were.”

As I mentioned in the brief opening, her supporters are in denial as well. They’ve even found a new and very rich (literally) target: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. The new line of attack appeared in the Huffington Post, which I’m sure will surprise none of you.

Donald Trump likes to talk about “draining the swamp.” The president-elect seems to mean cleaning up corruption in Washington. But for the real swamp of 2016, you needn’t look to our capitol ― just pick up your phone and open Facebook…

Zuckerberg himself has said that Facebook is not a media company.

Yet Facebook is where Americans increasingly get their news; at least 44 percent get news on Facebook, according to a recent Pew survey. While the internet has always been a breeding ground for misinformation and conspiracy theories, the walled gardens and massive user base of Facebook pose even deeper existential threats…

Throughout the election cycle, conservatives and Trump supporters delivered a reliable, regular dose of outright lies about Hillary Clinton ― that she would be indicted, that she was so sick she had to be propped up on pillows, that she was linked to a pedophilia sex ring, as Mashable’s Damon Beres points out. That last story was shared hundreds of thousands of times…

If Zuckerberg is truly the management genius Fortune would have you believe ― and is serious about his stated wish to make the world a better place ― he should thoughtfully examine his site’s role as a media outlet and news purveyor.

Oh, and he wrote a bunch of garbage about the topic as well. His big idea? More censorship, of course…

If Facebook employed a team of bipartisan fact-checkers to identify pages intended only to dupe millions of users, and if that team acted with only half the energy used to identify and banish nipples from the site, so much the better for the whole country. A less-toxic Facebook is doable. A less-toxic Facebook is crucial. A less-toxic Facebook is the absolute least you should demand from the people it’s made rich, because, with no great exaggeration, the ability to deliberately confuse tens of millions of American voters in exchange for banner ad revenues is a crisis.  Mark, Sheryl, et al.: Please, please, please help us out.

No. We don’t need teams of Facebook employees going around banning news and opinion they don’t like or decide is untrue. Let the users decide what they want to consume, not Big Brother. As we’ve seen through Trump’s election, the media lied to us for a solid year. Hillary was not inevitable. Their ability to tell us what is true and what isn’t is a thing of the past…if it ever really existed in the first place. They’re just mad that they lost. Now, they want to enact their censorship program. The people need to be on guard against this sort of thing.
