I’ve been honored to have all you visit my site over the last 10 days or so. I never expected to gain any sort of following, so it’s all been pretty surreal. I guess I have Leigh Alexander to thank, like she said. But, I also wouldn’t be here without 4chan. That’s why what’s happening to the legendary site has me sick to my stomach. It’s fallen to enemy forces, and doesn’t look to be coming back into the free speech fold anytime soon.

I never posted on 4chan very much. I would come by, read a few threads about some vidya news, or cruise around and look at whatever piqued my interest. But, I didn’t take the time to learn how to post effectively, or soak in too many of the customs. I just sat back, laughed at some shit, and then left. GamerGate changed all that.

I was on the threads 18-20 hours a day. I felt as if I was a part of something bigger than myself. That’s because I was (and still am). Happenings were occurring at breakneck speed. There was plenty of amusement, too. I laughed more during that time than during the previous year combined, probably. It was a great time for everyone, except the pissy idiots who can’t see the value in anything that they don’t directly benefit from. The said thing is, we are benefitting them, they’re just too fucking stupid to realize it. If you’re a 4channer, and you’re anti-GamerGate, or pro kicking us out (or both), you’re one of the stupidest people in known existence. How can you be so blind?

What are the reasons for this epic betrayal by site administrator moot, and his new gang of SJW cronies? Some say it’s because of the recent Gawker Media girlfriend he acquired. I’ve even read speculation that it’s because of a feminist hacking coalition threatening to take down his site. I’ve theorized myself that he may have received pressure from Anita Sarkeesian and the rest of the Silverstring cabal. But, I’ve come to believe that the true answer is much simpler than that.

Is it possible that moot is simply a coward? I know he’s withstood a lot of heat before, but some of the people he’s supposedly taking fire from now, happen to be his paymasters. Allegations have been made on the new home for free speech, 8chan. According to posters there, moot gets a lot of his money by selling influence and product placements on his boards, particularly /v/. He let it GamerGate go on for awhile, but shut it down when it started fucking with his money. Who does that remind you of? Moot is a Malka-type, who makes his money off of our backs. Then, he shuts us down, and tries to keep us off his site. It’s a disgrace, and it’s the reason that 4chan is officially dead.

If you can’t trust an anonymous board to let you say what you want, what use does it have? I honestly cannot think of any. Luckily, we have 8chan to fill in the gap. It was rocky at first, but they’ve seemed to have gotten their servers in order, and everything is running tip-top (at least it was as of post time). They’re ready to claim the #1 slot that moot vacated with his asinine stance on GamerGate.

Like Kotaku, Gamasutra, RPS, and Polygon, 4chan is now a thing of the past. We can remember it’s best days fondly. We’ll always have those stories to tell. But, we cannot live in the past. New beginnings have to happen. 4chan was great, for a time. It served it’s purpose.

Today, we bury it.

RIP 4chan
